Thomas and New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership

Launch Joint Program to Bolster State Manufacturing

Industry’s largest buyer/supplier network and New York State work together with the manufacturing community to fight COVID-19

New York (December 15, 2020) Thomas, the leader in product sourcing, supplier selection, and marketing solutions for industry, the New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NY MEP), and SecondMuse announced a joint program today to help New York State-based manufacturers and distributors of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical equipment and services reach in-market buyers across North America. Members of New York State’s manufacturing community will be added to Thomasnet.com®’s supplier database, qualification, and categorization system, providing access to over 1.4 million active industrial buyers per month.

“As a proud New York-based company and a leading platform for sourcing critical PPE equipment, we are thrilled to launch this joint program with our state’s manufacturers and distributors,” said Tony Uphoff, president and CEO of Thomas. “Helping local manufacturers reach broader markets showcases the vibrant industry and related job opportunities that New York State’s manufacturing industry represents today.”

Over 30 businesses have already joined the existing 300+ New York state-based COVID-19 suppliers currently on the platform. NY MEP will spearhead the sourcing of additional local companies for the joint program.

Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President & CEO-designate Eric Gertler said, “New York-based manufacturers and distributors are working hard to prioritize the production of vital PPE and COVID-19 related supplies. This unique partnership with Thomas helps businesses get the tools necessary to expand their reach and place these products where they are needed most.”

The joint program entails:

  1. At no cost, Thomas will categorize, verify, and promote selected New York State manufacturers and distributors who pivoted to help ease COVID-19 supply chain disruptions. Currently, the Thomas COVID-19 Response System has served over 1.5 million industrial users since its launch. The system spotlights more than 3,500 verified COVID-19 Response Suppliers and provides important updates for the manufacturing sector through its COVID-19 Resource Hub. Businesses will also be added to the free business listings on Thomasnet.com to ensure companies providing key goods and services can be found during this critical time.
  2. Participating companies will also be eligible for Thomasnet.com Registered and Verified Supplier Programs to help elevate the New York State suppliers' brand presence and offerings.
  3. Select businesses will be featured in the Thomas Industry Update, an industrial daily newsletter with 300,000+ active subscribers, to help promote the ingenuity and resilience of New York State’s manufacturing community.

Thomas has also been informing the manufacturing economy through its Thomas Industrial Survey Series and COVID-19 supply chain research, which examines the pandemic’s impact on North American manufacturing and industrial suppliers along with the solutions they are implementing to meet evolving sourcing demands. The latest report reveals critical COVID-19-related sourcing activity data corresponding to state-level case totals.
